How to melt your writer's block
It is unarguably correct that as a writer, you would have experienced writer's block at least twice.
I personally have experienced it a million times that's why I was pushed to write this. I really hope it's helpful, like extremely helpful. Dive in please.
In this post I'll be sharing the tips I use that help me get over my writer's block.
First off, I want to make it clear and known that writer's block and writer's laziness are two different things. If you have the story idea, everything's ready in your mind but you're too lazy to pen it down then I'm sorry because all I can tell you is write it now that you can. Time isn't waiting for your laziness to pass honey. On the other hand, if you don't know how to start that story, or you're stuck somewhere and can't seem to move, welcome on board.
I'll go on to discuss the tips. The first one is,
Change of environment or schedule; This always seems to work for me. Being a writer, your brain needs ideas to pick up on creating that mind blowing story. You're not going to get it doing the same thing everyday in the same place. Sometimes you just need that change of schedule and environment to boost your brain cells.
Read other books; Most writers are so busy writing that killer story that they forget that 'writers are readers too'. We keep our mind locked up and stressed about that one story, everyday. Sometimes you need to read other books too, you would get bored and stressed about your story .Plus reading other books is a great way to unwind and relax. Under this category, watching movies too can help but I believe reading books are more effective.
Have Quiet times; This is more of a therapy where you just need to sit down and have that conversation with your characters (Non writers would see this as creepy, lol). As a writer, if you don't breathe the life into your characters and story at Large, who would?
In this therapy, you could imagine putting your self into a charcter's shoe. Ask them what they want to do next, ask them how they want their story to unfold. Imagine being a reader, what would you expect. Decide if you want to shock them or surprise them. Just think about your book for a while but be careful to not stress your self about it so much.
Talk about your book; This could also be shipped under the previous tip. It is just a little bit different and harder because you need someone who's going to sit down and listen to you. It brings more life to the characters because you're discussing them like they're actual people.
Sometimes I do have small talks with my friends about my book. Arguments about characters too can also be classified under discussion. There was this one time my friends were arguing about who was wrong in my book, it sounded like the characters were real live people walking the streets with us. Trust me, it worked pretty well and it still works.
Try having fun; I don't think I need to explain this because everyone knows how to have fun. Listen to some songs, unwind, talk with friends, play in the sun (that's if you love the heat, I personally don't love the heat that much.) Take a breath of fresh air, take that rest you've been craving for days, eat, drink and laugh.
Remind your self who you are; The is so important. Writer's block can come as a result of doubts, depleted self esteem. You may have forgotten that you are a wonderful writer.
To need to remind your self who you are, an effective way to do this would be to read your old works.
You could also make use of this break your brain has given you and just edit other books. This is the hardest for most writers to do (I'm talking straight out from experience).
